Mysuru: The work on the desilting of 160 Lakes in the State taken up by Sri Dharmasthala Rural Development Project under the ‘Namma Ooru Namma Kere’ has been launched and three Lakes in Mysuru District will be rejuvenated, said Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade.
He gave this information to the media after inspecting the Hinkal Devara Kere, here on Friday.
The works have been taken up in co-operation with the people and Dharmasthala Rural Development Association will provide equipment for desilting of the Lakes. The farmers will transport the silt at their own cost to their farms, he said.
Nearly 80 per cent of the Lakes in the State are filled with silt and destroyed. If the groundwater level has to improve then water should stand in the Lakes. However, due to the increase in level of silt the water will not be stored and as a result the groundwater level decreases, he said.
On the occasion Project’s Regional Director Srihari, District Director Vijaykumar Naganala and others were present.
