Three more Dasara elephants to arrive tomorrow afternoon

Mysuru: The three elephants selected as part of the second batch for this year’s Dasara festivities will arrive at the Mysore Palace elephant sheds on the afternoon of Sept. 13.

A total of 12 elephants have been selected for Dasara. Of these, nine reached the Aranya Bhavan premises on Aug. 26 as part of the traditional Gajapayana and were accorded a traditional welcome at the Palace on Aug. 28. The first batch has been undergoing training since Aug. 31.

The second batch comprises Sugreeva (44) from the Dubare Elephant Camp, Roopa (50) from the Dodda Harave Camp and Chaitra (55) from the Rampura Camp in Bandipur.

The three elephants will leave their respective camps by truck tomorrow morning and are expected to reach the Palace through the Jayamarthanda Gate by afternoon.

From Sept. 14, all 12 elephants will participate together in the training sessions in preparation for the grand Dasara procession.
