Thunder, rain in city; more rains likely

Mysuru:  Rains accompanied by thunder cooled down the temperatures somewhat last night in the city and with it the election canvassing heat also reduced considerably and there are more rains likely today and tomorrow.

Called the summer blossom showers, it began drizzling around 9.30 last night and the rainfall was about 20 mm. Such rain is useful to grow paddy, ragi, vegetables and greens. These rains are also welcomed by farmers who are ploughing for the first time this season, said a source in the Meteorological Department.

However, the rain was bit of a dampener for election-bound Chief Minister Siddharamaiah, former CM H.D. Kumaraswamy and MLA G.T. Devegowda in the Chamundeshwari constituency as there was a break to the brisk pace of their campaigning.

They had plans of visiting a few number of villages along with the leaders and party workers and because of the rain they were disappointed. But the farmers were happy with the rains. Power was also disrupted in several areas throughout the night. It is also likely to rain today and tomorrow in the evening, said the Weather Department sources.

Meanwhile, it rained heavily in Bengaluru last night disrupting normal life. Trees were uprooted in several parts of the city and Police had a tough time controlling the traffic as there was water logging in several areas with knee-deep water.
