Mysuru: Members of the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress, Regional Tibetan Women’s Congress and Tibetan Students Organisation, staged a protest in front of Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple, Mysore Palace North Gate, in the city yesterday, demanding information about the mysterious disappearance of Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, the 11th Panchen Lama of Tibet.
The Tibetans from Kollegal, Hunsur and Bylakuppe and Monks from Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, waving Tibetan flags, later took out a rally till the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
The Chinese Government had illegally arrested Panchen Lama in the year 1995. Following which, Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama had identified Gedhun Choekyi Nyima as the 11th Panchen Lama. However, Nyima, when he was seven-year-old and his family members had been kidnapped by the Chinese Government. It’s been over three decades and there has been no credible information about his whereabouts since then.
Despite mediation at the international level, the Chinese Government is not providing the information. If he were to be alive, he would be 39-year-old, but remains in house arrest since over three decades. He remains devoid of education in Buddhist religious rituals. The Chinese authorities should clear the doubts among the community members and release Panchen Lama at the earliest to facilitate to lead a normal life.
Many other Tibetans remain under house arrest since then and they too should be released. Most importantly, the Chinese authorities should consent for holding the talks under the leadership of the Dalai Lama, to find solutions to the long pending issues plaguing the very community.
Hunsur Regional Tibetan Yough Congress’ Tsering Lukyap Janhil, Chemi Lhamo of Tibetan Women’s Organisation, Tsering Dorje Chung and Tsering Chodon of Kollegal Tibetan Camp and Thamdyn Tsewang of Hunsur Tibetan Camp were present.
