Mysuru: The TiE Mysuru Chapter conducted an insightful “Mentor the Mentor” workshop recently featuring N. Ravi Shankar, CEO of Aim High Consulting, as the keynote speaker.
A columnist, author, speaker, startup mentor, and angel investor, Ravi Shankar shared practical wisdom and strategies for effective mentorship during the engaging two-hour session.
He highlighted the importance of mentors shedding personal biases, titles and vested interests, urging them to serve as sounding boards, conscience keepers, and strategic guides for their mentees.
Shankar emphasised that true mentorship lies in guiding individuals through dilemmas, conflicts, and decision-making moments without imposing personal views.
A key takeaway from the session was his observation that six personas are at play in any conversation, underscoring the complexity of perception in communication. He encouraged mentors to “see the entrepreneurship, not just the entrepreneur,” advocating for a broader, objective perspective when guiding mentees.
Shankar also stressed the value of balancing passion with detachment, using visual memory hooks for clearer communication and honing skills to become impactful mentors. His blend of insight, humour and practical advice left attendees with a deeper understanding of mentorship as a catalyst for growth and clarity.
The session began with opening remarks by Bhaskar Kalale, President of TiE Mysuru. Sudhanva Dhananjaya, Board Member of TiE Mysuru, was present.
