Tiger deaths in Bandipur:  Lab reports confirm big cats not poisoned

Gundlupet: The reports from the Forensic Lab at Madivala and Veterinary Science Lab in Bengaluru have confirmed that the unnatural deaths of two tigers and an elephant in Bandipur Tiger Reserve (BTR) were not due to poisoning.

The two laboratories have submitted their reports on the animal deaths which took place on Jan. 25 to the BTR authorities. BTR authorities had sent the viscera samples of all the three dead animals including that of an elephant to three laboratories to find out if they were poisoned.

On Jan. 25, the Forest Department personnel had found the carcasses of two tigers and a female elephant from the Hirikere forest area of the Gopalaswamy Hill region.

A clear picture on the animal deaths can be got only after receiving the report from the third lab, said a forest official.
