Two cows killed on Saturday night
Gonikoppa: Residents of South Kodagu, who are yet to come out of shock following the menace of a tiger, which had created havoc by killing human beings and livestock and eventually found dead a few days later, are still living in a sense of fear after two cows were found killed by a tiger at Biluru village near here on Saturday.
On late Saturday night, the tiger, which raided the cowshed of one Kandera Latha Ganesh, killed two cows and had tried to drag away one of the cows. As it could not drag away the cow, it had consumed a part of it near the cowshed gate and fled from the spot. The cow is estimated to cost about Rs. 80,000 as it was pregnant and Latha has demanded the Forest Department to provide adequate compensation.
Meanwhile, Ponnampet Range Forest Officer (RFO) Rajappa, Deputy Range Forest Officer (DRFO) Diwakar and staff rushed to the spot and conducted an inspection. Following pressure from the villagers, the Forest personnel have placed a cage to trap the tiger.
MLA K.G. Bopaiah and MLC Sunil Subramani visited the spot and collected information.
Bopaiah, who called Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) Chakrapani over the phone, took the DCF to task and expressed his anger over the inefficiency of the Forest Department in preventing such incidents.
BJP leaders Girish Ganapathy, Gram Panchayat Member Adengada Vinu Changappa and others were present.
