Toddler killed as car rams into electric pole

Mysuru: A two-year-old baby was killed while five others sustained injuries when the car in which they were travelling rammed into an electric pole on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) in city  yesterday evening.

The deceased toddler is Mythili, daughter of Naresh, a native of Udupi and presently residing in Bengaluru. The injured are Naresh, who was driving the car, his wife, mother-in-law and brothers-in-law.

All the six had gone to Wayanad in Kerala and were on their way back to Bengaluru. Yesterday at about 6.30 pm, they were proceeding on the ORR and when they neared Basavanahalli-Hinkal Flyover Junction at Vijayanagar 4th Stage, the person behind the wheels of the car lost control of the vehicle which rammed into the electric pole resulting in serious injuries to toddler Mythili, who was sitting on the front seat. Though the toddler was rushed to a private hospital in city, the baby succumbed to injuries, it is learnt. The other injured persons have been admitted to two private hospitals in city.    

Who was sitting with the toddler on the front seat, the names of the injured persons and other details are yet to be known.

Rider killed

In another road accident, a two-wheeler rider was killed on the spot when he rammed the bike into an electric pole near Kadakola village in the taluk on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Sairaju (29), a resident of Doddakanya village, who was working as a supervisor at an automation company in Tandya Industrial Area.

Sunday being a holiday, Sairaju had gone to Tandavapura on his bike (KA-09-HT-3257) and while returning to his village at about 5 pm, he lost control of his bike on TVS Factory Road near Kadakola and rammed the bike into a roadside electric pole resulting in him sustaining serious head injuries and breathing his last on the spot, Police sources said.

Mysuru South Police, who rushed to the spot, conducted mahazar, shifted the body to MMC&RI mortuary, where post-mortem was conducted and the body was handed over to the family members.

Mysuru, South Police, who have registered a case in this regard, are investigating.
