Mysuru: “He took the car and told me that he would return soon. But fate willed otherwise and my distant relative Ryanulla Rehman is in the hospital now. I never imagined that the car will over-speed and meet with an accident, snuffing out three young lives.” These were the words of Car Babu, who owns a car showroom near NIE.
The Hyundai Verna car (KA-09 MA-6116) met with an accident near Dattagalli on Wednesday afternoon killing three persons and injuring another two persons who are recuperating at a hospital.
The deceased students are Mohammed Farhan (22) of Hunsur and a first year BBM student at St. Joseph’s College, Mysuru, Syed Aseem (21) of N.R. Mohalla and Divya (20), a B.Sc student at Maharani’s College.
The seriously injured are 23-year-old Ryanulla Rehman, a Hunsur College student and 21-year-old Spoorthi, a student of SJCE and a resident of Kuvempunagar. Mohammed Farhan and Aseem, who had written their BBM exams, had passed and they decided to celebrate. They called their friends and Rehman borrowed the car from of his relative Car Babu.
At about 2.30 pm, Rehman, who was behind the wheels, lost control of the vehicle near the CESC office and hit a roadside divider. The impact of the accident was such that the car toppled three times and its rear door got detached. Farhan, Aseem and Divya, who were seated behind, were thrown out of the vehicle and killed instantly.
The car was previously owned by former Mayor R. Lingappa who had sold it to one Shashank, through Car Babu and Shashank had given it to Car Babu to sell it about 15 days back. “I had kept the car in the showroom and Ryanulla, who is my distant relative, told me that he needed the car for a few hours. Ryanulla has a Toyota Fortuner and on that day, his father had taken the car. As Ryanulla needed the vehicle, I gave it to him after making sure that he had a DL. I got a call at 2.30 pm and was shocked to hear that the vehicle has met with an accident,” Car Babu said.
“When the car is in our possession, many people come to us for test drive. We make sure that they have the DL. In this case too, I have followed the procedure. It pains me to hear that three young persons have died,” Babu added.
Meanwhile, doctors said that Ryanulla Rehman and Spoorthi are out of danger and they will be discharged soon.
