Mysuru: As part of International Museum Day celebrations, the Department of Archaeology, Heritage and Museums, District Administration and the Tourism Department had organised a unique programme ‘Museum on Wheels’ where about 50 members of the public were taken on tour in a KSTDC bus to several museums in city this morning.
The theme for this year’s Museum Day was ‘Hyper-Linking of Museums and Museum for Generation.’ The tour was flagged off by Heritage Commissioner T. Venkatesh at Wellington House on Irwin Road at about 10 am.
Accompanied by resource persons, the tourists were first taken to Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (IGRMS) on Irwin Road from where they proceeded to the Department of Archaeology, Museums and Heritage at Dasara Exhibition grounds, Regional Museum of Natural History, Wax Museum in Siddarthanagar, Sand Museum and Sea Shells Museum on Chamundi Hill Road, Folklore Museum in Manasagangothri, Railway Museum and R.K. Narayan’s House in Yadavagiri before concluding at IGRMS where the tourists were provided lunch. Deputy Director of the Department of Archaeology, Museums and Heritage Nirmala Matapathi, Assistant Director M.L. Gowda and others were present at the inauguration.
