Toxic fumes, foul smell engulfing Srirampura

Sir,

I am a resident of KBL Century Phase 1, near Lingambudhi Palya in Srirampura Second Stage, Mysuru. For over three years since building our home here, our peaceful evenings have become suffocating due to a pervasive foul smell that blankets our area and spreads across at least 3-4 km, affecting adjacent neighbourhoods like Dwarakanagar and nearby layouts.

This stench — reminiscent of a garbage dump, laced with toxic fumes — has plagued us for over a year. Every evening after 7 pm, it wafts through the air, causing severe health issues such as respiratory irritation, headaches, nausea and breathing difficulties. It feels like living inside a landfill, hitting elderly family members hardest as they struggle to breathe comfortably.

Residents suspect sources like toxic gas releases, evening garbage dumping or drainage overflows, but no clear answer has emerged despite our efforts.

I urge the Mysuru City Corporation, Pollution Control Board and elected representatives to identify the root cause and take swift remedial action.
