Trade Unions call nationwide general strike on July 9

Mysore/Mysuru: Strongly opposing the amendments to labour laws, Trade Unions have called for a nationwide general strike on July 9.

Announcing this at a press meet here yesterday, AITUC (All India Trade Union Congress) leader N.K. Devadas said that the working hours should remain 8 hours a day and no amendments that facilitate extension of working hours should be made. Stating that labour rights should not be curtailed, he said that the Government should declare minimum wage of Rs. 26,000 for contract, organised and unorganised workers and Rs. 36,000 for scheme workers, in keeping with rising inflation and cost of living.

Devadas said that marking a march will be taken out from Gandhi Square at 10 am on July 9 and a mega public rally will be held.

Trade Union leaders Chandrashekar Meti, N.K. Balajirao, H.M. Basavaraju, Somaraja Urs and Yashodhar were present.
