Traditional stone bus shelter near Chamundi Hill Arch Gate soon 

MLA G.T. Devegowda’s Rs. 17 lakh project to be completed before first Ashada Friday  

Mysuru: A new bus passenger shelter, designed in traditional architectural style, is coming up near the Arch Gate at Chamundi foothill ahead of Ashada festivities, when lakhs of devotees visit the famed Hill shrine. 

The shelter is expected to be ready before the first Ashada Friday on July 17. To facilitate the movement of pilgrims arriving from across the country, Chamundeshwari MLA G.T. Devegowda (GTD) has sanctioned Rs. 17 lakh from special funds for the project. 

Designed entirely in stone, the structure will reflect Mysuru’s heritage architecture and blend with the city’s distinctive cultural character. 

GTD, who had earlier overseen the construction of the landmark clock tower at Sangam Circle in Vijayanagar, has taken keen interest in the project, which is intended to serve devotees for years to come. 

During the Ashada month, private vehicles are prohibited from entering Chamundi Hill and devotees depend on Government-arranged buses to reach the temple and offer prayers to Goddess Chamundeshwari.  

Many pilgrims board these buses near the Arch Gate on the Hill Road, where the lack of a proper waiting area has long been a source of inconvenience. The new shelter is expected to address this need by providing a comfortable waiting space for devotees. 

Work on the project has been underway for the past two months. The 20 ft. x 17 ft. shelter has already reached the foundation stage, while artistic stone pillars are being crafted using machinery to ensure both durability and aesthetic appeal. 

The construction is scheduled for completion before July 17, when the first Ashada Friday is expected to witness a large influx of devotees.  

“This bus shelter will reflect Mysuru’s heritage while providing convenience to pilgrims visiting Goddess Chamundeshwari,” GTD said.
