Mysuru: Vehicular traffic to the Chamundi Hill will be banned after 9 pm on Dec. 31, the New Year Eve. The Hill, one of the favourite spots to celebrate the New Year where many revellers prefer the open and secluded spaces, will be out of bounds as all the entry points will be sealed by the Police.

However, entry will be provided to only those vehicles that are owned by people who reside atop the Hill and special passes will be issued to them.

Speaking to Star of Mysore, DCP (Crime and Traffic) Dr. Vikram V. Amathe said, “We do not want to take any chances and the ban is being enforced mainly to avoid accidents and drunken driving.”

Elsewhere, the city Police are making all arrangements to see that the New Year celebrations pass off peacefully by beefing up security arrangements. The Police are not ready to take any chances during the celebrations as tourists from all over the country descend in large numbers.

The Police force is fully geared-up after having obtained details of foreigners staying in hotels, guest houses, home stays, PGs and apartments.

Since the Winter Festival is on and Mysore Palace and a few other locations are major tourist attractions, tourists have arrived in large numbers.

City Police Commissioner Dr. A. Subrahmanyeswara has asked the respective Police Stations to make all security arrangements and see that no untoward incidents occur.

The Police Control Room will monitor CCTV cameras installed at Circles, main roads and junctions  and if there are any suspicious movements, the information will be passed on to the respective Station    Inspectors.
