Traffic cop pushed down by bike rider

Mysuru: Close to the heels of Siddarthanagar Traffic ASI’s uniform being torn by a rider at Maharana Pratap Singhji Circle near Race Course on Aug. 8 during checking for traffic violations, an incident of a cop being pushed down by a rider who tried to stop them for haphazard riding has been reported near Sanskrit Patashala in city yesterday.

The Police have arrested one of them for obstructing a government servant from discharging his duty.

The arrested has been identified as Naveen and the cops have launched a hunt to nab the other who managed to escape.  The Traffic cop who was pushed down by the rider has been identified as G.K. Nagesh, attached to K.R. Traffic Police Station.

Nagesh, who was on his regular beat on a Cobra bike at about 5 pm, saw a rider along with a pillion riding the bike in a haphazard manner near Sanskrit Patashala and tried to stop them for questioning.

When Nagesh went near the bike to ask them to stop, the rider and the pillion pushed Nagesh down and tried to flee from the spot. But Nagesh, who got up and chased the bike, managed to catch hold of one of them. The rider and the pillion were under the influence of alcohol, said the Police. A case has been registered at K.R. Police station in this regard.
