Traffic rule violations: 61 Driving Licences impounded

Mysore/Mysuru: Following increasing traffic violation cases in city, City Traffic Police, who have begun their crackdown on traffic rules offenders have impounded 61 Driving Licences (DLs) of motorists in the three-day drive.

The Traffic Police, who conducted a special drive last week, have impounded DLs of 45 motorists on a single day for speaking over mobile phone while riding/driving vehicles and a total of 61 DLs have been impounded in the three-day operation.

From December last till February 2021, 3,429 cases of rash and negligent driving/riding, 1,973 cases registered for riding/driving vehicles in one-ways, 425 cases for speaking on mobile phones and 395 cases were registered for jumping traffic signals. Out of these, DLs of 143 motorists have been impounded for jumping traffic signals and speaking over mobile phones.

In 2019, a total of 3,816 cases were registered against those speaking over mobile phones while driving/riding vehicles but due to COVID-19 pandemic and restriction in the movement of vehicles in 2020, a total of 890 cases were registered.
