I am writing as a concerned citizen to share a few observations and suggestions on traffic efficiency and road safety in our city.

At many intersections, traffic signals operate in a strictly sequential manner. This often leads to unnecessary waiting, even when traffic is light or when vehicles on opposite sides of the same road are moving in the same direction.

A more coordinated, direction-based signal system could help address this. Allowing traffic moving in the same direction to flow simultaneously across junctions may reduce waiting time, improve fuel efficiency, cut emissions and ease congestion, particularly during peak hours.

Many cities now use sensor-based or time-adaptive traffic systems and even a pilot project at key junctions here could make a noticeable difference.

Another issue that deserves attention is the growing problem of excessive glare from high-intensity headlights and the improper use of high beams at night. This can temporarily impair the vision of oncoming drivers and significantly increase the risk of accidents.

It may be helpful to consider awareness campaigns on responsible headlight use, periodic checks of after market high-intensity lights and stricter enforcement of regulations on permissible headlight intensity and alignment. Exploring glare-reduction or adaptive lighting standards could also contribute to safer driving after dark.

I hope these suggestions will be considered for further study or pilot implementation in the interest of improving traffic flow and ensuring safer roads for all.
