Mysuru: Siddarthanagar Traffic Police, during their routine checking, caught a man riding a Bajaj Platina bike (KA-55-E-4785) violating traffic rules and on checking the Blackberry device, the Police came to know that the man had 201 traffic violation cases registered against him and had failed to pay the fines despite notices being served.
The man, who had failed to pay the fines, has been identified as Roshan Ali Baig, a labourer and a resident of Rajivnagar here.
When the cops asked him to pay a fine of Rs. 20,100 for the violations, the man is said to have told them that the bike cost him Rs. 10,000 and he does not have so much money to pay the fines and left the bike with the cops.
Cases had been registered since about one-and-a-half years.
The violations were caught on CCTV cameras installed at various junctions in city and the Police, based on the CCTV footages sent notices to the house of the bike owner. But Baig, who had bought the bike, had failed to register the same in his name and hence he had no knowledge about notices being served, said the Police.
As Baig has left the bike with the cops following his inability to pay the huge fine, the Police are now planning to auction the bike to recover the fines.
Meanwhile, ACP (Traffic) K.N. Madaiah said that there are 7,622 vehicles including two-wheelers, cars and autorickshaws, which have more than 20 traffic violations cases and the records are at the Automation Centre in City Police Commissioner’s office. We are now going to the doorsteps of offenders and collecting fines, Madaiah said and added that the checking drives would continue.
