Train journey: Some thoughts

Image: IndiaRailInfo

Sir,

This has reference to the views expressed by Dr. H.S.R. Rao on night train journey (SOM dated Aug. 7). I wish to share my experience as a frequent traveller by Kaveri Express from Chennai to Mysuru in 2nd AC Coach.

The train runs to its capacity till Bengaluru and reaches around 3.30 am and most of the passengers alight and the doors are thrown open.

Unwanted elements get into the compartment and peep through the curtain and passengers who are sleeping expose themselves to risk. Elderly persons are easy targets. When questioned they quietly walk away.

As rightly stated, there are no TTEs or Police personnel to prevent these undesirable elements from entering the coach and to securely close the doors once passengers alight.

Will the Railway authorities view this situation seriously and take corrective measures by deploying TTEs and Railway Police in each compartments through the entire journey?
