Mysuru: Prof. D.G. Rao, Director, Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysuru, inaugurated the five-day training-cum-workshop on Testing and Evaluation and question Item Writing for the Assistant Professors and School Teachers of Kannada and Tamil working in Universities, Colleges and Schools in South India on June 17. The workshop was organised by the National Testing Service-India (NTS-I) at CIIL.
In his presidential remarks, Prof. Rao stated that a teacher must be exposed to the state-of-the-art methods and techniques to assess their students’ learning outcome, competence, and cognitive-motor abilities for the purpose of fair assessment and evaluation.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. P. Perumalsamy, Deputy Director, CIIL briefed the participants about the research and academic activities undertaken by the Institute.
Prof. P. R. Dharmesh Fernandez, Deputy Director, CIIL and Head, Centre for Testing and Evaluation, asked the participants to make maximum use of the exclusive workshops and training programmes conducted by NTS-I in the area of testing and evaluation.
Dr. Pankaj Dwivedi, Officer In-charge, NTS-I welcomed and briefed the participants with the objectives of the workshop. He further added that in order to maintain quality standards in language education, NTS-I is developing standard tools, techniques and methods, producing academic materials, and creating trained manpower for teaching-learning of Indian languages.
Dr. R. Shakunthala compered inaugural session of the workshop and proposed a vote of thanks. Around 60 Assistant Professors and School teachers from various Universities and Government First Grade Colleges of South India who are engaged in teaching and research of Kannada or Tamil attended this workshop.
