Mysuru: A three-week intensive training programme on ‘Introduction to Translation,’ organised under the National Translation Mission (NTM) of Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), commenced on Thursday at CIIL premises in Manasagangothri.
About 40 scholars and faculty of various Universities along with representatives of Institutions in Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Manipur and other places are participating in the event.
Briefing the gathering, CIIL Director Dr. D.G. Rao said that NTM was an initiative of Union Government to establish translation as an industry to make texts and materials of higher education available in Indian languages through translation.He added that hands-on-training was provided during the session through Machine Aided Translation (MAT).
A thematic volume of NTM ‘History of Translation’ and redesigned quarterly newsletter ‘Translation Bulletin’ were released. T. Vijay Kumar, Co-ordinator, Centre for Advanced Research and Training in Translation and Multilingualism, Osmania University and Maya Pandit of English and Foreign Language University, are the chief trainers. NTM officer-in-charge Tariq Khan and others were present.
