A treat for over 6 lakh taste-buds at Kannada Sammelana

Food being served in an orderly manner to the participants at the 83rd Kannada Sahitya Sammelana which concluded in city yesterday.

Mysuru:  The three-day 83rd Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, which concluded yesterday at Maharaja’s College Grounds here saw about six lakh people consuming various delicacies for breakfast, lunch and dinner at three venues — Maharaja’s College Grounds, Scouts and Guides Grounds and Ursu Boarding School.

Tasty food was served in an orderly manner at all the three locations and there were effective waste management systems. The serving of food (breakfast, lunch and dinner) began as early as 5 am and went on till about 11 pm as there was a huge crowd.

On the three days, the Food Committee, which had the responsibility of serving quality and tasty food, served breakfast, lunch and dinner, which included sweet and khara pongal, poori-saagu, methi rice-bath, rice-sambar, curd-rice, pomegranate curd-rice, papad, pickles, kajjaya, vegetable biriyani, rice-rasam, rice payasa, jowar roti, akki roti, brinjal yennegai, kalle-huli, aloo bonda, menasinakai bajji etc., which received appreciation from the participants and guests at the Kannada Sammelana who had come from across the State.

Though there were some issues over serving of food on the first day, the Food Committee rectified the same and serving of food on the second and third day went on smoothly without any glitch.

Senior Food and Civil Supplies Deputy Director Dr. K. Rameshwarappa, who was in charge of food arrangements at the Sammelana said that nearly six lakh literary buffs and other participants savoured the variety of dishes prepared for them at the temporary kitchen set up in the Grounds. We had prepared the dishes as per the menu, Dr. K. Rameshwarappa said and expressed happiness that more people had arrived for the lit fest than what they had expected.

The boarding facility was availed by more than 10,000 participants, he said.
