‘Trekking spots turn death traps’

Kodagu, apart from being a tourist destination, is also a hotspot for trekking. The district, which is an adventurer’s paradise, has a dozen trekking spots that provide an offbeat experience to visitors.

Some of the popular trekking spots are Thadiyandamol, Nishani Betta, Kumaraparvatha Range, Brahmagiri range, Kotebetta Mandalapatti, Kallubetta, Kopattimale, Second Monnangeri, Vanachalu, Makkala Gudibetta, Garwale, Soorlabbi and Kaluru.

Trekkers used to descend from a waterfall near Thadiyandamol for adventure. Sunrise and hillside camping also provided a unique experience to trekkers.

Speaking to Star of Mysore, Head of Arohana Trekking Association K.K. Maheshkumar said that most of these trekking spots that gave a thrill to the visitors are either destroyed or turned into death traps. He said the district will take some years to revive trek tourism.
