Sister John taught music at the Music Department of Good Shepherd Convent in Chennai and in Mysuru. Apart from being an accomplished western classical concert pianist, Sister John was also a pioneer in making a serious attempt at playing Karnatak music on the piano.

She formed Mysore Music Association in 1971 and was proud to have its chief patron, the then late Maharaja of Mysore Jayachamaraja Wadiyar, who was also a music lover. The Association promotes Karnatak, Hindustani and Western music as well as dance and drama, according to a press release from M. Lakshminarayan, President, Mysore Music Association.
