Twist to 50 live .303 bullets missing case

June 4, 2020
  • T. Narasipur Police Station Head Constable stages suicide drama
  • Leaves his bike, clothes on river bank, flees to Hunsur to hide in haystack

Mysore/Mysuru: Chasing criminals and witnessing their hoodwinking acts to escape the long arms of law makes some Policemen to follow their footsteps. This exactly happened in the case where 50 live .303 bullets were stolen from T. Narasipur Police Station recently and where Mysuru Superintendent of Police (SP) had ordered a thorough investigation to nail the culprits within the Police Department.

Apart from ordering a probe under the leadership of Additional SP P.V. Sneha, SP C.B. Ryshyanth had also suspended the T. Narasipur Police Station writer (Head Constable) Krishnegowda till the probe is completed.

A Police Station writer is responsible for arms and ammunition in a Police Station and the Inspector will have the overall responsibility. As the Head Constable sits inside the Station, he will have knowledge about the assets, especially the sensitive ones that are placed inside Station vaults.

After the live bullets were found missing, Nanjangud Sub-division Dy.SP Prabhakar Rao Shinde lodged a Police complaint (FIR 149/2020) last Sunday at the same Police Station under IPC Section 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant) and Section 380 (theft).

Soon after his suspension, Krishnegowda, like any other criminal, tried to avoid the law and created a suicide drama. As a person who has innate knowledge about how the Police system works and knowing fully that he will be caught one day or the other, Krishnegowda yesterday took his bike to Mannehundi village where a river flows and removed his clothes on the river banks.

His intention was to create an impression that he has committed suicide fearing the law. He also had left his bike on the river banks. Krishnegowda cleverly fled from the spot, reached Hunsur and hid among hay stacks. He then contacted his relatives to get him a car so that he can flee from Hunsur too.

Alert villagers near Hunsur who were, however, suspicious about Krishnegowda’s behaviour and mannerisms, tipped off the Police. Very soon, Dy.SP Prabhakar Rao Shinde got information about the Head Constable’s hideout and he took a team comprising Circle Inspector M.R. Lava. The team managed to secure Krishnegowda from the haystack.

He was later brought to the SP Office in Mysuru where he is being questioned about the whereabouts of the 50 live bullets and how it went missing from the Station and where they have been kept now.

SP Ryshyanth told ‘Star of Mysore’ that Krishnegowda had been suspended under the grounds of negligence and he is being interrogated. On the high drama he created to give an impression that he has committed suicide, the SP said it was not a serious issue.
