32.28 quintal rice recovered, two vehicles seized
Mysuru: In separate cases, the City Crime Branch (CCB) Police on July 23 and 24 have arrested two persons on charges of illegally storing and transporting ‘Anna Bhagya’ rice and have recovered 32.28 quintal of rice besides seizing a weighing machine and two vehicles used for the crime.
In the first case on July 23, the CCB have arrested 30-year-old K. Tabrez, a resident of Ghousianagar in city for illegally storing the rice meant for distribution to the poor. The Police have seized a Maruti Omni Van used for transporting the rice illegally. A case has been registered at Mandi Police Station in this regard.
In the second case, the CCB Police, who continued their operations on July 24, arrested 32-year-old Syed Iftar Ahmed, a resident of Shanthinagar in city, who had illegally stored ‘Anna Bhagya’ rice and had loaded 52 bags of rice weighing 22.28 quintal in a goods vehicle to sell it for higher price.
The Police have recovered the rice bags and have also seized the goods vehicle.
A case has been registered at Udayagiri Police Station in this regard.
CCB ACP B.R. Lingappa supervised CCB Inspector A. Mallesh, Food Inspectors T.J. Lakshmi and H.R. Ganesh, CCB staff Sreenivasa Prasad, Deepak, Joseph Naronha, Raghu and Srinivas in the nabbing and seizing operations, according to a press release from the Public Relations Officer (PRO), City Police Commissioner’s Office, Mysuru.
