Two arrested for poaching leopard, smuggling carcass

Kollegal: Kollegal Rural Police have arrested two persons on the charges of killing a leopard and transporting the carcass. The Police, who have recovered the carcass of the leopard, have seized two country guns and the bike used to transport the carcass from the accused.

The accused have been identified as Shantharaju and Arun, residents of Doddinduvadi village in the taluk. The Police are on a look out for their accomplice, who is absconding.

During interrogation, the accused are said to have confessing to poaching the leopard at Kaggalipura Forest area in T. Narasipur taluk.

Kollegal Rural Police, who have registered a case, handed over the two accused to judicial custody and have launched a manhunt to nab the absconding accused.

SP Padmini Saho, Additional SP T.J. Udesh and Dy.SP Somegowda guided Circle Inspector Krishnappa, Rural Sub-Inspector Ganesh, Sub-Inspector (Crime) N. Cheluvaraju, ASI Mallikarjuna, Takiulla and Crime Detection staff in cracking the case. SP Padmini has also announced a cash reward for the investigating team.
