Two arrested for waylaying trucks

They targeted North Indian vehicles, couples

Mysuru: Udayagiri Police have arrested two persons on charges of allegedly attempting dacoity by waylaying trucks of other States and vehicles of couples.

The arrested are 21-year-old Abdul Rahim of Rajivnagar and 23-year-old Tousif Baig of Ghousianagar.

Acting on a tip off that the accused were holding weapons and walking on the Ring Road near Rajivnagar and extorting money from truck drivers and cleaners, occupants of cars and two-wheeler riders, Udayagiri Police, on Monday evening, rushed to the spot.

On seeing the Police, the accused, who were wearing monkey caps and holding sticks and iron rods, tried to flee from the spot, but the Police, who had surrounded them, caught them and took them into custody.

During interrogation, the accused are said to have confessed of attempting to extort money by waylaying vehicles and threatening with knife besides stating that they (accused) even tried to forcibly snatch gold jewellery and cash by throwing chilli powder into the eyes.

The Police have seized cable, chilli powder, iron rod and knife from them. A case has been registered at Udayagiri Police Station in this regard.
