Two arrested for intimidating TV reporters

Mysuru – Two persons were taken into custody yesterday by the Saraswathipuram Police for allegedly intimidating two reporters working for private TV news channels.

According to complainants by Raghavendra and Madhusudhan, yesterday they had been to a hotel in Saraswathipuram at around 3.30 pm for lunch when Nithin and Amit abused and threatened to kill them. Soon, the Police was alerted and the accused were arrested.

Raghavendra and Madhusudhan stated in their complaint that the intimidation and abuses were the result of a report published in their TV channels about Congress leader N. Dhruvaraj some months ago. They alleged that the news report had enraged Dhruvaraj and his supporters.

The Police, who had initially registered an NCR (Non-cognizable Report), later converted the case into a cognizable offence under IPC Sections 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation). Both Amit and Nithin were later released on Police Station bail.

Reacting to the incident, N. Dhruvaraj has clarified that he does not have any connection to the incident. “Whoever has committed the crime will face the law accordingly. It is not right to drag my name to the incident,”                            he said.
