Two Corona positive women deliver babies in ambulance

One baby survives, another dies

Mysore/Mysuru: Two Corona positive women from T. Narasipur Taluk have delivered babies in ambulances in two separate incidents in last two days.

Unfortunately, while one new-born survived, another pre-matured baby died.

Savi (name changed), 26 years, from Talakad village, developed delivery pain and was taken to Taluk Hospital. Before admitting her, the Covid test was conducted on her and it showed positive. Then she was advised to go to Smt. Lakshmidevamma Shankar Shetty Maternity Hospital in Jayalakshmipuram, Mysuru which has been converted into Covid Maternity Hospital.

An ambulance driver, upon requesting him to shift her to Mysuru Hospital, refused on the ground that the contagion may spread to others. But, after advise by local doctors, the driver agreed to shift the patient to Mysuru.

As the ambulance approached Varuna, she delivered in the vehicle and was assisted by a nurse. She was advised not to touch the new-born fearing spread of infection. Later, they were shifted to Covid Maternity Hospital where they were doing well.

Doctors have planned swab test on the baby and shift both of them to Cheluvamba Hospital.

In the second incident, Kavya (name changed), 21 years, of Doddamalagodu village, was six months pregnant, and had fever for last two to three days. On testing, she had got Covid. She was scared and tensed after hearing this. She experienced heavy bleeding and doctors advised her parents to shift to Covid Maternity Hospital.

While they were nearing Siddharthanagar, she experi-enced labour pain but the baby was dead. She was shifted to Maternity Hospital where she under treatment.
