Two-day car photo expo explores the journey of automobile

R. Muni Rao Mane, retired Senior Assistant, KSRTC, is seen explaining about his collections on display at Mysuru Art Gallery in city yesterday.

Mysuru: Car Car Car elnodi Car… is a popular catchy song from the movie Nanna Preetiya Hudugi. However, the inspiration for collection of photographs of cars did not come from this song, but it came when he visited the Vintage Car Museum at Dharmasthala and saw the car collection of Dharmadhikari Dr. Veerendra Heggade 17 years ago.

The 65-year-old R. Muni Rao Mane, a retired Senior Assistant, KSRTC, explores the journey of the automobile through his collection of more than 1,500 photographs of cars of all makes. Right from the first steam engine car produced in Germany in 1769 in the form of a tricycle, to the cars owned by the Maharajas, imported cars that came to the State and many vintage cars are in his collection.

He shared more than 200 of this attractive collection of photographs at the motor car and art exhibition, as part of the monthly ‘Sadakarondige Samvada,’  held at the Mysuru Art Gallery on Ramanuja Road on May 28 and 29.

Speaking about his experience at the interaction session here on Sunday, Mane said that he would collect photos from India magazine and  wherever he could find car photos. He was again inspired to collect more photos after his write-up appeared in Mysooru Mithra.

The information that the first car Do-Doin landed in India at Mangaluru is also there. The other photos that catch the attention of visitors are cars used by the Maharajas like Sunbeam, Rolls Royce—Phantom 3, Mercedes, Pink Panther, Hindustan Contessa Model, Hindustan Landmaster to the modern cars Ford Chevrolet, Hyundai from Korea, Volkswagon and Benz.

Retired KSRTC Divisional Controller Boregowda, retired Manager Ramarao, Training Manager Shachipati, writer Yashika, Gallery President L. Shivalingappa, Secretary Dr. Jamuna Rani Mirle and others were present.
