Two-day MDJA Sports Meet begins

Two-day sports meet organised by Mysore District Journalists Association (MDJA) for journalists and their family members began at Sports Pavilion, Department of Physical Education, University of Mysore in the city this morning.

Krishnaraja Constituency MLA T.S. Srivatsa, who inaugurated the Sports Meet by hitting a ball with the bat, said “It is a welcome gesture that the journalists have organised sports for themselves and their family members. Both people’s representatives and journalists cannot spend enough time with family. But by organising such events, the family members will also get some time to spend outside the house.”

Mysuru Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer (CEO) K.M. Gayathri also spoke.

MUDA Commissioner G.T. Dinesh Kumar and international Kho-Kho player M. Veena participated as chief guests.

The Meet began with five teams enrolling for cricket tournament, followed by the matches.

On the second day tomorrow at 6 am, shuttle badminton tournament has been organised for journalists and their children aged above 16 years at the indoor stadium of UoM Physical Education Department.

Later at 8 am, various events have been organised for journalists and their family members like running race, shot put, gunny bag race, lemon and spoon race among others. The prize distribution ceremony is at 3 pm.

MDJA President S.T. Ravikumar (RK), General Secretary M. Subramanya, City Vice-President M.S. Basavanna (Anurag Basavaraj), City Secretary P. Rangaswamy, Karnataka Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ)- State Committee Member B. Raghavendra, Executive Committee Members Machamma Mallige and Shivamurthy Juptimath and others were present.
