Two-day National Conference on astrology and palmistry begins

2,000 astrologers, palmists and priests participate

Mysuru – A two-day national conference on ‘Astrology and Palmistry’ organised jointly by Sri Mayakara Gurukula, Mysuru and Karnataka Sanskrit University, Bengaluru began this morning at Kalamandira here.

About 2,000 astrologers palmists and priests from State and other places are participating in the conference which features several sessions with resource persons deliberating on various aspects of astrology and palmistry with focus on new techniques.

Inaugurating the conference Rudrappa Manappa Lamani, Minister for Textiles and Muzrai said that astrology, when used in the right and fair perspective, can predict various effects across the world in advance. However, he regretted that a few astrologers greedy of money were fleecing people thus bringing disgrace to the good concepts of astrology. He cited the example of astrologers predicting on TV with just a minute of hearing from an aggrieved person which was misleading the gullible people.

He said that the money given to archakas at Muzrai temples for incidental expenses has been increased by Rs. 1,000 a month and the salary  too will be  hiked shortly to Rs. 13,000.

Dr. Shelvapillai Iyengar, Deputy Registrar, Karnataka State Open University, delivered the keynote address and stressed the need to give astrology its due recognition going by its true merits.

Sri 1008 Jagadguru Siddalinga Raja Deshikendra Shivacharya Swamiji of Shree Ujjini Saddharma  Simhasana Mahasamsthana Peetha graced the occasion along with Swamijis of other ashrams.

MLA M.K. Somashekar released a poster of Sri Mayakara Prabhu. Karnataka Sanskrit University VC Padma Shekar released the book Jeeva Naadi. Scholar K.G. Puttahonnaiah presided.
