Mysuru: A two-day ‘Career awareness workshop for persons with disability,’ jointly organised by University of Mysore’s Drushti — Centre for Education of Visually-Challenged and Enable India’s Empowerment Cell for Inclusion of Persons with Disability (an initiative by Enable India and JSS PDA, Mysuru), was held at Vignyan Bhavan auditorium in Manasagangothri recently.
Prof. C. Ponnuswamy, former faculty of Political Science, Bangalore University, inaugurated the workshop. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the workshop was aimed at educating persons with disability on knowing their rights and positioning themselves into a strong position to land their dream career.
Pointing out that in the last 10 years, theoretical and applicative changes have taken place in the disability field, Prof. Ponnuswamy said that these changes also have significant consequences for school career guidance.
Highlighting the use of Braille script even in this modern era, where technology is making rapid strides with each passing day, he said that it was appropriate to recall the new disability conceptualisations, where the issues of choice and career development are anchored.

Enable India (Bengaluru) Project Manager Vishwas Urs, Drushti Co-ordinator Prof. N. Usha Rani, University Librarian Dr. Ramesh Gandhi and others were present.
About 100 differently-abled students from various educational institutions took part in the two-day workshop which featured lecture sessions and certificate distribution.
