Mysuru – Nazarbad Police have yesterday arrested two persons on charges of assaulting a Police Constable attached to Udayagiri Police Station on Tuesday and have launched a hunt to nab one more person who is absconding.
The arrested persons have been identified as Prabhakar and Manikanta (Mahalinga), both residents of Siddarthanagar in city, who along with another person, had assaulted the Constable identified as Manjunath near Boulevard Circle of Lalitha Mahal Road.
It is reported that Constable Manjunath was taking the cattle seized during a raid to Pinjrapole Society when the vehicle broke down.
Three persons, who were coming behind the vehicle in a SUV, began to honk for way but the vehicle which had broken down did not budge from the spot which irked the people in the SUV.
Soon, the three occupants of the SUV got down from the vehicle and began to hurl abuses on the Constable using foul language. The Constable told them that he was a Constable, showed them his ID Card and also told them that the vehicle had broken down and hence it cannot be moved. But the persons got down from the SUV and assaulted the Constable injuring him on his cheek and neck. He immediately went to Nazarbad Police Station and lodged a complaint and also gave the registration number of the SUV to the Cops.
Nazarbad Inspector M.L. Shekar, who registered a case in this regard, arrested two persons yesterday morning.
During interrogation, the Police came to know that Prabhakar worked as a contractor in a guest house, while Manikanta had served a six months jail sentence for a crime and the duo along with a cab driver of a hotel had assaulted the Constable.
The arrested were produced before a Magistrate last evening, who has remanded them to Judicial custody, according to the Police.
