Two held for trying to extort money in city

Mysuru: Lashkar Police, on Wednesday morning arrested two persons, who were trying to extort money from a man by brandishing a knife near Halladakeri here.

While the arrested persons have been identified as 26-year-old Lenin and 22-year-old Nayaz of Gandhinagar in city, the man they had targeted has been identified as Ganesh, a resident of Kavalande village in Nanjangud taluk.

Ganesh had come to city on Tuesday to meet his friend in Kesare here. As his friend was not available, he stayed in Rural Bus Stand overnight and was walking to City Railway Station the next day at about 4 am, when Lenin and Nayaz confronted him near Halladakeri and demanded Ganesh to buy them tea.

When Ganesh took out his purse to give them money for tea, the duo took out a knife and tried to snatch away the money kept in the purse resulting in Ganesh screaming for help.

Lashkar Police personnel, who were on their regular beat nearby, heard the screams of Ganesh, rushed to the spot and arrested Lenin and Nayaz.

Following the complaint lodged by Ganesh, Lashkar Police, who registered a case in this regard, produced the accused before a Court, which remanded them to judicial custody.
