Two jailed for sexually harassing minor girls

Mysuru:  In separate judgments, city’s Special POCSO Court has sentenced two persons for sexually harassing minor girls and has sentenced them to jail besides imposing fines on them.

In the first case, Special POCSO Court Judge B.S. Jayashree has sentenced 50-year-old Suresh to three years imprisonment and a fine of Rs.10,000 for attempting to sexually assault a minor girl.

The girl, about two-and-a-half years ago, was going to a shop to fetch beedis for her father, when the accused waylaid her and tried to sexually assault the girl, who was saved by a person working nearby and sent her home.

The shocked girl, who returned home, narrated the incident to her mother following which the girl’s mother lodged a Police Complaint.

The Police, who had registered a case, had submitted a charge-sheet to the Court. Judge B.S. Jayashree, who heard the arguments from both sides on Wednesday, found the accused guilty of the crime and sentenced him to three years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs.10,000.

In the second case, the Court has sentenced 36-year-old Girish to one year imprisonment and a fine of Rs.10,000 for sexually harassing a minor girl by showing her indecent pictures on his mobile phone.

The girl told her mother about the incident, following which a complaint was lodged with the Police. Based on the complaint, the Police, who arrested the accused, conducted investigation and had submitted a charge-sheet to the Court.

Judge B.S. Jayashree, who heard the arguments, found the accused guilty and sentenced him to one year imprisonment and imposed the fine.

Special Public Prosecutor B.C. Shivarudraswamy argued on behalf of the Government.
