Chamarajanagar, Oct. 15 (SS &KS)- Two labourers, who had gone to pluck coconuts at a farm, died on the spot after they were electrocuted. The incident took place at the farm in Kothalavadi village of Chamarajanagar district yesterday.

The deceased have been identified as Swamy (43) and Krishna (44), residents of the village.

The farm is owned by Prakash of the village who had given it on lease to a person from Kerala. The person, who had taken the farm on lease, had allegedly connected power to the fence illegally to protect the crops from wild animals.

Yesterday, when Swamy and Krishna came to the farm for work and in the afternoon, they proceeded to pluck coconuts. While Krishna climbed the tree, plucked coconuts and threw them on the ground, Swamy was collecting the fallen coconuts and keeping them in one place.

When Swamy was collecting coconuts fallen on the ground, he accidentally touched the fence connected to the power line and began to scream. Krishna, who heard Swamy screaming, climbed down and tried to rescue him during which both were electrocuted and died on the spot.

Soon, villagers gathered at the farm and refused to shift the dead bodies till the man from Kerala, who had taken the farm on lease, come to the spot besides staging a protest.

Chamarajanagar Rural Police, who arrived at the spot, conducted an inspection and registered a case.

Post-mortem was conducted at CIMS Hospital this morning and the bodies were handed over to the family members.
