Kollegal/ Gundlupet: In separate incidents, two leopards were found dead at Thimmarajipura village in Kollegal and Mantipura in Gundlupet.
In the first incident, a four-year-old leopard, which tried to cross the electric fence installed illegally around the field of one Suresh at Thimmarajipura, died after being electrocuted.
Suresh had allegedly put up the electric fence illegally around his 1.30 acre field in Survey No. 171B, to protect the maize crops. The leopard which had come in search of food tried to cross the electric fence and its neck came in contact with the electric fence and was charred to death.
Conservator of Forests Shankar, Probationary Dy. Conservator of Forests (DCF) Rudraian, Range Forest Officer (RFO) Dhanu, Mahadevaswamy, SI Vanaraju, Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) AEE Lingaraju and others visited the spot. Veterinarian Shivakumar conducted post-mortem of the leopard on the spot.

The Forest Department officials have taken Suresh into custody for further investigation.
In the second incident, over seven-year-old leopard was found dead with injuries on its body at Mantipura in the fringes of forest coming under Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Gundlupet.
The Forest personnel, who were on beat, found the carcass of the leopard and informed the higher officials.
Veterinarian Dr. Nagaraju, Gundlupet Sub-Division ACF M.S. Nagaraju, Omkar RFO Naveen Kumar and NTCA Member Raghuram visited the spot.
Dr. Nagaraju, who conducted the post-mortem, said that the leopard had fought with another animal resulting in severe injuries to it and added that the leopard had died of exhaustion.
The carcass of the leopard was later cremated in front of the officials.
