Mysore/Mysuru: To commemorate National Doctors Day celebration (July 1), two Senior Doctors were conferred with ‘Vaidya Ratna’ Awards in recognition of their services in the medical field by city-based Brahmeebhootha Sri Vasudeva Maharaj Foundation.
Every year on July 1, India observes National Doctors Day to pay tribute to Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, who was not only a renowned doctor but also a distinguished politician, a freedom fighter and a champion of education.
MLA T.S. Srivatsa, MLC C.N. Manjegowda and Social Worker K. Raghuram Vajpayee presented the award to Dr. K.V. Lakshmidevi and Dr. Poornima Madhusudhan at a function held at Patrakarthara Bhavan here.
Speaking on the occasion, Raghuram Vajpayee said that Dr. B.C. Roy (1 July 1882 – 1 July 1962) was inspired by the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and involved himself in social work and freedom movement in West Bengal. “Later, as per the advice of Gandhiji he entered politics and served the people as the Chief Minister of West Bengal. Even after becoming CM, he didn’t forget his profession and used to open his clinic in the evenings to serve the people,” he added.
MLC Manjegowda recalled that when he was serving as a soldier in Punjab, he was hit by a bullet in his stomach and went into coma. “Had the Doctors not given the right treatment then, I would not have become an MLC today,” he sighed.
Sri Vasudeva Maharaj Foun-dation President M.V. Nagendra Babu and Convenor N. Ananth were also present.
