January 28, 2020

Mysuru/Mysore: In a case of attempt to murder, two brothers, who tried to kill their late brother’s wife to get her property, in March of 2017, have now been sentenced to five years jail by the VIII Additional District and Sessions Court, Hunsur.  Another relative too, has been sentenced to jail for assisting the two in the crime.

Those sentenced are 55-year-old Shivappa and his brother 42-year-old Manjunath of Hanchipura village in H.D. Kote taluk and 52-year-old Siddappa of Dodadahalli village, also of H.D. Kote taluk.

The accused had tried to kill Prabha, wife of late Mahesh by forcing her to drink poison. Luckily for Prabha, a few people working in the neighbouring field came to her rescue and shifted her to a hospital, where she survived.

After the death of Mahesh, his brothers Shivappa and Manjunath started harassing Prabha for her property, though the property was divided equally among all the three. She had filed a case pertaining to the dispute at a Court.

Sargur Police, who had registered a case against the three persons had conducted investigation and had submitted a charge-sheet against them to the Court.

Judge B. Madhusudhan, who took up the case on Jan.24, heard the arguments from both sides and found the three accused guilty of the crime and sentenced them to five years jail and also levied a fine of Rs. 12,500 on each failing which the trio has to undergo an additional six-month jail term. The Court has also urged the District Legal Services Authority to ensure compensation to the victim.

In-Charge Public Prosecutor Ajith Kumar D. Hamigi and M.S. Manjula argued on behalf of the Government.
