Mysuru: A City Court has sentenced two persons to life imprisonment after holding them guilty of murdering a 20-year-old woman in 2014. Swamy and Shankar of Ranganathapura in Begur hobli of Gundlupet taluk are the ones who have been sentenced, while the case of a minor boy, who is also an accused, is pending before the Court.
Swamy, who was said to be interested in marrying one Puttammanni of his village, had lured her to come to Nanjangud along with him, after promising her of marriage. She was also asked to bring cash and jewellery.
As told, Puttammanni came along with the jewellery following which Swamy, along with his accomplices Shankar and a minor boy, took her in a car to Nanjangud on Jan. 6, 2014.
As the car reached Military Maala, a secluded place near Nanjangud, the trio strangled Puttammanni with her veil and then smashed her head with a boulder, killing her on the spot. The trio later left the spot along with Rs.50,000 cash & jewellery.
As Puttammanni did not return to her house, her parents lodged a missing complaint with Gundlupet Police. However, her body was found in a decomposed state several days later at the spot where she was killed.
Police then arrested Swamy, Shankar and the minor boy on charges of murder, one month after the crime based on the clue that the accused had pledged the gold jewellery of Puttammanni at pawn broker shops in Nanjangud and Mysuru.
The jurisdictional Nanjangud Police, who investigated the case, submitted charge-sheet against the accused. The Second Additional District and Sessions Judge Vijaykumar M. Anandashetti, who heard the case on Monday, sentenced Swamy and Shankar to life imprisonment. Public Prosecutor H.D. Anandkumar argued on behalf of the State.
