Talakad: Two students were drowned near Srirama Dam at Medini near Talakad in T. Narasipur taluk Saturday afternoon.
The deceased students are Bharat (17) and Likith (18), both PUC students at Manasa College in Kollegal.
It is learnt that Bharat and Likith, along with their friends Akshay and Daniel, ventured into the water near Srirama Dam, for a swim.
Police suspected that, as the gate of the dam was open, Bharat and Likith, who did not know swimming, were pushed through the dam gate due to strong suction to the river and were drowned.
Talakad Police, who reached the spot, conducted a search operation but in vain. Additional SP Mallik, Nanjangud Dy.SP Raghu, Talakad Sub-Inspector Anand Kumar, ASIs Mahadevu and Nagendra and Fire and Emergency Services personnel continued the search operation till late Saturday evening and had to call off the operation as it had got dark.
The search operation resumed yesterday morning and the bodies were finally traced and fished out.
The bodies were shifted to T. Narasipur Government Hospital, where post-mortem was conducted and the bodies were handed over to the family members.
