Two thieves held; necklace two-wheelers seized

Mysuru: Udayagiri Police have arrested two persons on charges of extorting money and valuables and also lifting two-wheelers in city.

The arrested persons have been identified as 20-year-old Mohammed Kaleem alias Gabela of Belavatta village, Kesare, N.R. Mohalla and 20-year-old Mohammed Kasif of  Rajivnagar in city.

The two were taken into custody on Nov.10 when they were standing along with a TVS Victor bike and Honda Activa scooter near Azeez Hotel in Kesare in a suspicious manner.

During interrogation, the accused is said to have confessed of snatching a bag containing cash, gold ornaments and three mobile phones from a woman travelling in an autorickshaw on Irwin Road on Nov.7 at about 4.30 am.

Mohammed Kaleem is said to have confessed that on Oct. 24 at about 5.15 pm, he had snatched a vanity bag containing cash, mobile phone and documents from a woman going on a two-wheeler on the Service Road near VTU College. Kaleem has a case of stealing batteries of vehicles registered at N.R. Police Station.

Mohammed Kasif has also confessed of lifting a Honda Activa scooter parked in front of a house near Bilal Masjid in Udayagiri on Sept. 9 at about 7.30 pm.

Based on the information provided by the accused, the Police have recovered a Honda Activa scooter and a TVS Victor Bike worth about Rs. 90,000 and a gold necklace from them.

The accused are said to have confessed of spending the cash and selling the mobile phones.

DCP Dr. Vikram V. Amathe and Devaraja Sub-Division ACP B.S. Rajashekar supervised Udayagiri Inspector P.P. Santosh, SIs S. Raju and M. Jaikeerthi, ASI Babu Lokanath and staff M.M. Babu, R.S. Krishna, Manjunath, Siddiq Ahmed and M. Mohan Kumar in the nabbing and recovery operation.
