Two tribals as special invitees for Republic Day Parade in Delhi

Mysuru Two members of tribal community have been selected as special invitees for the Republic Day (R-Day) Parade to be held in New Delhi on Jan. 26.

They are Shekar Maravanthe, a Koraga tribe and a resident of Nironimane Colony, Kundapur taluk, Udupi district and H.N. Jyoti, Hasalaru tribe and crusader of Tribal Rights Movement, residing at Gonibeedu Village, Moodigere taluk, Chikkamagalur District.

The two members were given a warm farewell at a function held at Tribal Research Centre (TRC) on Aniketana Road in Kuvempunagar here yesterday.

Every year, the nation honours two members of tribal community from each State in New Delhi on Republic Day. The said two persons will be in New Delhi for ten days and accommodation would be provided by the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs. They will be provided seats in the gallery next to the seat of the President and can view the Republic Day Parade, according to TRC Director T.T. Basavanagowda.

Shekar Maravanthe and Jyoti were felicitated on the occasion at TRC and sweaters were presented to them.

TRC Deputy Director S. Pratibha, Research Officer Dr. C. Madegowda, Field Researcher Dr. Geetha, Centre Researcher Saraswathi, Tribal leaders Vittala, Krishnamurthy and others were present.
