UGC-NET cancelled, CBI probe ordered

June 20, 2024

New Delhi:  A day after conducting University Grants Commission (UGC)-National Eligibility Test (NET) on June 18, NTA has cancelled the test on June 19, forcing the candidates to write again afresh.

Following the complaints of irregularities in UGC-NET, the decision to cancel the test was taken, besides ordering for a probe by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the complaints.

Over 11 lakh candidates had appeared for UGC-NET conducted across the nation at 1,205 exam centres in 317 cities on June 18.

However, soon after the allegations of irregularities surfaced, the Union Ministry of Education, decided to cancel the test to protect the transparency and integrity associated with the test.

UGC-NET is conducted every year to decide the eligibility criteria for the aspirants of Assistant Professor posts or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Indian Universities and colleges.
