Undertrial from Mandya dies in city

Mysuru: A day after Manju, an undertrial lodged at Mysuru Central Prison under Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, died owning to ill-health, another case of an undertrial succumbing to stomach ache has been reported from K.R. Hospital in city.

The deceased has been identified as Anand (26), a resident of H. Malligere village of Mandya taluk.

Sources said that Anand, along with two others, Chandu and Ranjith, was facing trial under POCSO Act and was housed at Mandya Prison from Mar. 23, 2016. While, Chandu and Ranjith had moved High Court for bail, Anand, who is financially weak, had opted not to move HC.

It is said that Anand was suffering from stomach ache for the past four days and he was referred to K.R. Hospital only yesterday.

The news of Anand’s death spread across H. Malligere village and around 60 of his relatives rushed to the Mandya Jail, launched a snap stir accusing the jail authorities of negligence.

Sources added that even the inmates protested inside the jail.
