Unsafe practices on busy roads

Sir,

It is being observed regularly that many people are getting down the autos or cars when the vehicles are waiting for the green signal and walking towards the Circle along the road divider blocks (see photo) instead of proceeding towards the footpath and coming to the pedestrian crossing area.

Sometimes people are coming in groups in this fashion. Thus, they are taking chance and putting the drivers of other vehicles at risk. It is against road safety rules. First of all, people are not supposed to get down from the vehicles in the middle of the road or busy traffic. Secondly, even if they get down, they should proceed towards the footpath for their safety and reach the pedestrian crossing.

In addition, some people are jumping even these raised dividers and crossing the road instead of crossing at zebra lines. Public (both pedestrians and drivers) are losing patience to wait for the green signal and jumping the signal even at busy areas, which is not safe.

People should understand that safety is more important than crossing the Road or a Circle! A few seconds or minutes’ urgency may end up in an accident, if drivers, who are always in a hurry, are not alert !!
