Sir,
While making the online payment of property tax through Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) website, the message — “Form is not secure – Google Chrome” and “the information you’re about to submit is not secure – because this form is being submitted using a connection that’s not secure, your information will be visible to other” followed by the options to click either “send anyway” or ‘go back” — gets displayed.
Being a layman and not being computer-savvy, I cross-checked this information with Google and I was aghast to learn that “Not Secure” warning in the address bar means there is a lack of security for the connection to that page.
It also states that this information sent and received with that page is unprotected and it could potentially be stolen, read or modified by attackers, hackers and entities with access to internet infrastructure (like Internet Service Providers – ISPs and Governments).
I decipher that this means that the hackers can have access to our bank account or card details linked to MCC payment, which is definitely risky.
While outsourcing the online payment web portal, I think MCC should have insisted for a secure payment page to protect the interests of lakhs of Mysureans making online payment. Will the new MCC Commissioner look into this ?
