Unwarranted road asphalting

For Representation Only

Sir,

Apropos the letter “This stretch of road needs asphalting” (Star of Mysore dated Dec. 20), I fully agree with the writer that Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) is neglecting the roads which need attention.

A couple of days back a stretch of KRS Road from Sri Lakshmi Venkataramanaswamy temple up to  Gokulam 3rd Stage was asphalted. This stretch of the road was one hundred percent motorable even before asphalting.

There are many main roads in and around Mysuru city, which are absolutely non-motorable and MCC turns a blind eye towards such roads. I really fail to comprehend why MCC asphalted a good motorable stretch of KRS Road when this stretch has been remaining in good motorable condition, since long.

The negative fall-out of this unwarranted asphalting is the decrease in the height of the road hump at the intersection of Gokulam Road and KRS Road.

About two decades back, this hump was constructed after a couple  of  fatal and minor accidents at this intersection. There were two spot deaths at this junction. This hump was acting as a real speed-breaker for the fast moving vehicles travelling  towards Gokulam 3rd Stage. And now with the reduced height of this hump, hope and pray that motorists will be careful at this intersection.
